Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Active quarry just on the contact between the Central Bohemian plutonic complex and the Moldanubian paragneisses. In this quarry stone for aggregate production is exploited. The paragneiss body, belonging to the so called Popovice Complex, contains also migmatites, orthogneisses and inclusions of erlans and Si-crystalline limestones. Also transitional rocks between mica schists and gneisses appear with rich association of minerals. Pegmatite veins can be also found. This locality forms part of the Geopark called "Kraj blanických rytířů - The Area of Blaník Knights".
